When a Joker does not complete the Goal given in a challenge, he receives a loss. These losses are recorded on the Loser Board, appearing underneath the name of-- and above the photo of-- the Joker that earned the loss, and whoever has the most losses after all the challenges will be declared that episode's "Big Loser" and get punished. The standard symbol of a loss is a thumbs down in a red circle.
Variations of the Loss[]
- From Season Two onwards, there has occasionally been a "Double Down Challenge", where a Joker can get two losses for one challenge. These are rare.
- On very rare occasions, a failure to complete a task can result in a disqualification. This happened to Murr in Human Pinata when the task was to get a hug after an apology: he said his plan was fool-proof & when he began his attempt to apologize, the victim dismissed him before Murr could even say anything. For his miserable failure, the Jokers disqualified Murr from the round.
- Some challenges are about who can do the most of a given task, such as sticking Post-It notes to a stranger. If a Joker does the least, they get a loss. There is also a version of this where only the Joker who does the most wins, while the other three take a loss.
- In Bigger in Texas, like the win, the Thumbs-down sign was in a sheriff badge. However on the Loser Board, it still shows up as a regular thumbs-down.
- In Paradise Lost, a Sad Tiki takes the place of the thumbs down sign.
- In some challenges, a Joker can place a bet if another Joker has to do a particularly hard task. They can either bet a loss on the current challenge, or a loss on the entire episode. If the task is completed, the Joker who made the bet either scores a loss or automatically becomes the Big Loser, even if someone else has more losses. The first time a bet like this occurred was in Do Something To My Face and was done again in Bigger in Texas. However if the Joker who made the bet succeeds, they will take a Win and the Joker who received the bet will take a normal loss.
- On rare occasions, if a Joker refuses to do a task in a given challenge and scores a Loss, the Jokers may turn the challenge into a surprise Punishment, depending on the losing Joker's standing on the Loser Board.
- The Jokers can form alliances against another Joker to ensure that they score a loss or become the Big Loser, succeeded in Remember The Pact, in which Murr was automatically punished due to the other three winning and Murr having the most losses. These alliances can backfire, though, as seen in The Alliance.
- Forfeiting a challenge counts as an automatic loss for the competing Joker.
- Disqualification counts as an automatic loss for the competing Joker.
- If a Joker tells strangers that they are on a hidden camera show during his challenge, he is disqualified and loses the challenge. However if the stranger mentions it first, it will not count against the Joker.
- If a Joker is caught cheating during a challenge, the other Jokers can disqualify him and give him a loss for it.
- Blatantly disregarding or ignoring the rules of a challenge out of spite can result in an automatic loss for the whole episode, as seen in Jillian Bell.
- In Team-Based Challenges, both Jokers on one team lose.
- In Hollywood, like the win, the Thumbs-down sign was taken off the red circle and placed in a Hollywood Star.
